YOU THINK YOU HAVE SKILL ON THE GRILL??? COME PUT IT TO THE TEST FOR A CHANCE TO WIN A SHARE OF THE $10,000.00 IN PRIZE MONEY!
Do you remember the extremely popular Eastern Shore BBQ festival that was held in past years called ‘Pork in the Park?’ Were you disappointed like we were when hearing this event wasn’t going to continue? Well… WE HAVE GOOD NEWS FOR YOU!!!
We are excited to have partnered with the original organizer who made Pork in the Park such a success during her involvement, and along with Somers Cove Marina, are hosting a Kansas City Barbeque Society sanctioned BBQ competition that is being called, ‘SMOKIN ON THE DOCK OF THE BAY!’
Friday, Aug. 17: 4-10pm & Saturday, Aug. 18: 10am-10pm
A NEW EVENT, PROVEN LEADERSHIP…
Most know that when food is prepared over an open flame, it is no longer just cooking, it becomes an art-form. Additionally, hosting a successful BBQ competition is also an art that takes an array of skills, talent – and experience. Smokin on the Dock of the Bay is being professionally organized and executed to the highest of standards to ensure the chefs can produce their perfect masterpieces that will be judged, and, that attendees will have an awesome time! Even though this is the first time the Friends of Crisfield and Somers Cove Marina has hosted a BBQ cooking competition, we are certain this will be a huge success. How can we be so confident? One name, Sandy Fulton, the coordinator for this event. She was the original event coordinator for Pork in the Park and not only did she make this the LARGEST BBQ COMPETITION ON THE EAST COAST, she made Pork in the Park one of the largest festivals of any type held on the mid-Delmarva Peninsula. This, along with the other competitions she’s coordinated, speaks for themselves.
If you’ve competed in BBQ competitions around the Mid-Atlantic region you will most likely know Sandy. If you’ve attended a BBQ festival in the area – one that was well run and successful – you may have seen Sandy orchestrating the event, and doing it all with her glowing smile. Sandy is well-known and highly respected among the BBQ competition circuit and is an authorized event coordinator for the Kansas City Barbeque Society which has over 450 sanctioned events each year and more than 19,000 members spanning the globe.
LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION…
Crisfield has long been called the ‘Crab Capital of the World,’ but it’s also well known for the sunsets as well as the city’s many festivals and events. Visitors love the festive atmosphere and the unique characteristics of the locals, and in essence, people come to Crisfield to have a good time. This is demonstrated during two of town’s largest events – the National Hard Crab Derby and the Governor Tawes Crab and Clam Bake, both of which are held at Somers Cove Marina.
We’re delighted that Somers Cove Marina has become a partner for Smokin on the Dock of the Bay and this event will join the Crab Derby and Clam Bake as a major event held on the Marina grounds. If you own a sailing vessel we encourage you to utilize their 100 transient slips, which accommodates boats of all sizes, and spend the entire weekend. You can relax by their Olympic size pool in the morning, enjoy the Smokin on the Dock of the Bay, and also eat crabs and party at the Marina’s new tiki-bar, the ‘Red Shell Shanty.’ Who could imagine a more perfect weekend?
ENTERTAINMENT & ACTIVITIES…
Of course the main attraction will be the grill-masters working their craft over the open flames, but there will also be ongoing games, activities and sources of entertainment for all ages. A full schedule will be announced soon.
